Hotel is ideally located. One to two minute walk to the caldera, restaurants and shops. Staff is amazing and very knowledgable of the island and acitivies. The owner/manager actually picked us up from the bus station and walked us to the hotel. Breakfast was generous. Pool was cleaned pretty much everyday. Hotel has a relaxed atmosphere that will surely clear your mind. Hotel also has a private terrace where guests can view the sunset away from the crowd. IMO – The terrace is a better place to view the sunset!

  • Nadaix, Northern Greece Says:

Ideal location, idyllic environment, very helpful and reliable staff, excellent service. Only 1-3 mins (!!) walking distance from everything (main street, shops, pick-up point, bus/taxi spot, sunset spot). Yet very calm and private, very well maintained in a beautiful spot with great views, a true Greek island experience both in terms of arrangement, as well as, hospitality. Do plan a couple of days extra for enjoying the hotel’s sunset terrace, your room, its pool, your balcony, it is really worth it. Trust its people for everything, from fine dining to arranging your transport. I stayed with a friend and we loved it. Equally suggested for couples and families. Great value for your money. It made our stay in Santorini a wonderful experience. And I had already been in Santorini 3 times before.

  • A traveller from Den Haag, the Netherlands Says:

    Nice peaceful location

The Aethrio hotel is a nice peaceful location in the middle of busy Oia. The hotel is well kept, the staff is very helpful and the room we had was huge. The bathrooms could use an upgrade but overall it was a wonderful location for exploring the town and visiting the rest of the island.

Go on the volcanoe tour. It is a great day to see the crater of the volcano and to do a bit of hiking. Make sure you take water with you as even in June the top can be very hot. The hot springs are not very hot, but a lot of fun to swim in.

  • Alissa B from Minnesota Says:

    Great hotel…great service!

The owners of this wonderful “boutique style” hotel were warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped up to the reception desk. This was my first trip to Santorini, and I would definitely return to this hotel on subsequent visits. Oia is a beautiful city and Hotel Aethrio definitely added to a great trip. Thanks so much!!!

We were lucky to book this hotel–right in the heart of Oia but still sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. Right around the corner from great food, amazing views, beautiful! But still peaceful and idyllic. The grounds and pool were well kept, the rooms were charming, and we’re so glad we stayed here! It really made the Greek island experience for us. The staff was fantastic–warm, friendly and took care of our transportation, car rental, and boat tour reservations. This took the stress from planning, and we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. We had a lovely time! If you’re going to Santorini, this is highly recommended!

  • Shalini Saint-Jules from Toronto Says:

Aethrio was a slice of heaven! The double room we had was very large with a sofa and big cabinet/dresser. The bathroom was modern and clean. The hotel itself was splendid, atmospheric, and all the rooms appeared to have private balconies. The rooftop patio had fantastic views with sea on either side including view of the beautiful sunset of Santorini. The owner was very kind and helpful. Altogether this hotel is great value for money.
The hotel front desk closed by 8:30 p.m. which is just about the time you want to order a drink before catching the sunset. Otherwise we have no other complaints!

  • Claudia - Paulshof (ZA) Says:

It was right in the middle of Oia town in Santorini, in a beautiful setting. Staff was very unintrusive and friendly. When you book via the internet, you cannot always see exactly what you are getting – but this holte was really great.

  • DonkeyAdviser from Toronto Says:

This hotel is nestled in quiet area but steps away from the bustle of the main streets. Our double bed room was spacious with a sofa and big closet/dresser. Bathroom was very clean and modern. The sunset view was fantastic at the rooftop terrace where you can see the sea on both sides of the island. The owner was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was so relaxing which made a perfect holiday!

  • Doria, Houston - July 2009 Says:

beautiful hotel, very nice court yard, very nice staff, very convientty located

  • 07/2009 - Angie USA Says:

I liked that the hotel had a pool and a sunset terrace. They were able to change our hotel room after we were displeased with the first room they gave to us which was dark, unwelcoming and cave-like room. I like that they offered us a small bottle of wine on our welcome. They told us it was complimentary because we were on our honeymoon however every person we saw check in to the hotel received one too!

  • David - Brookline - USA - JULY 2009 Says:

We had a wonderful stay at the Aethrio. Staff was tremendously helpful on all aspects of getting around the island. Location is perfect for staying in Oia. One minute walk to a bus to get all around the island, 3 minute walk to the center of Oia. Hotel itself is gorgeous, wonderful pool, beautiful layout/buildings on the complex. Breakfast was good, not great, but you can’t go wrong at this hotel – would go back their in a heartbeat.

  • Gavin from London Says:

Great location. Very rustic. The suite was enormous and had great outdoor space and lovely views (although not of the caldera).

  • Manuel/Spain - August 2009 Says:

The hotel has a very beautiful commun area, a very nice swimming pool, a nice terrace with a view to the sunset, and is very well located in Oia. The rooms are big and calm. The reception gives good directions and informations to visit the island.

  • 08/2009 - Nikolas, Springfield USA Says:

We enjoyed the view from our balcony. Watching the sunset was the best part of the stay. Hotel is pretty close to the bus/taxi stop.

The location was great (close enough to easily carry your luggage from a taxi), the pool was glorious. The hotel had endless character. The staff was great. I absolutely loved it and will return!

  • Maralyn, Australia Says:

It is part of the history of Santorini. The hotel was a family compound last century. The staff were always helpful. I loved having fast internet in my room at no extra cost. The room was spacious and very clean and there was fresh fruit at breakfast every day. I would recommend this hotel very highly.

  • Intrepid_Traveler13 New York City Says:

I chose this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews. So many hotels in Santorini got scathing reviews, that I was a little put off, until I found that everyone had good things to say about Aethrio. AND it was affordable.

I loved the hotel. If you’re looking for something hanging off the side of the cliff, with a pool perched precariously over the ocean, this isn’t the place. But it’s only a 1 minute walk from all that! And that view can be seen from the roof deck. Plus, it’s very easy to get to from where the cab will drop you off. Just a few meters walk, that’s easily doable. The cliff hotels require ascending and descending a lot of steps, and navigation of the throngs of tourists. And it’s hot. And windy. Believe me, I saw many frustrated and sweaty people trying to roll their luggage on cobblestones, and trying to get their luggage up and down those steps,
Forget all that. Stay at the Aethrio!!!

Much to my surprise I got an entire suite.(Suite #7). Admittedly, I did pay for an upgraded room, but I wasn’t expecting all that square footage. The suite had cool marble floors, and simple design. There was a marble bathroom, a mini fridge, and a giant private terrace, with a view of the sea.

The pool was glorious!!!! Have a look at my photos. I was in heaven. I usually avoid the sun, but I couldn’t resist this pool!

The staff were great. Breakfast was included. And there was a library of books in English, Greek, German, and French. So don’t worry if you forget reading material.

I plan to stay here again. Many more times.

  • MBK1 Says:

We stayed here and loved it. I was worried based on some of the other reviews but I am happy we chose the Aethrio.

Rooms were big, clean and nicely decorated in the simple Greek traditional style.
Bathrooms were clean and simple – the shower is a typical Greek shower but everthing works well. Plenty of towels, shampoo and a hairdryer are provided.

Breakfast was very good and the food was plentiful (and we traveled with a 12 year old eating machine of a boy). Coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, cereal, granola, fruit,breads/ rolls , hardbolled eggs, cold cut meats and cheeses everyday, We even had homemade spanikopitas one morning. Food never ran out even when we went down to breakfast at 10 of 10!!

Pool was clean, refreshing – chairs and umbrellas and loungers w/ cushions aroundthe pool. Pool towels are also provided. The plants all arounfthe outside of the hotel were beautiful and so well tended. we had family staying at other more expensive hotels with pools but the wanted to always come to swim and hangout at our place!!

The hotel is close to everything and still very private. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone.

Our stay in Aethrio was super relaxing and had everything we could have asked for and more. The room we received was HUGE, full of character and had a proper bathroom with a proper shower! I am not sure what the other people have been complaining about but this place was a real find. Despite 35+ degree heat, the high ceilings in our room helped keep the room cool and fresh, so didn’t have to run the AC the entire time. We were also lucky enough to get our own roof top balcony to take in the sunset, without having to fight the crowds (complete with 4 cushioned wooden sun loungers!) The staff were friendly and unobtrusive and the pool was simply stunning. All together it was our favourite place to stay over the two weeks we spent hoping around the islands yet cost us significantly less than some of the other lemons we ran into.

  • A traveler from Houston, Texas Says:

Lovely hotel with great service, breakfast, sunset terrace and pool. We loved the location-Oia is very pretty and peaceful and seemed a lot less congested than Fira. There were doors from the breakfast room leading right into the town center which I thought was cool. I loved the style of the hotel-being what I thought was more traditional Greek island housing with the white walls and roofs and terracotta pots. The rooms were pretty basic and the bed a bit hard but we encountered hard beds in all 3 hotels we stayed in while in Greece. We had a little kitchenette with a stove, sink and mini fridge which we used to stock some beer, wine and water. The bus stop was close by and taxis were about 25 euros to the airport / ferry port. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aethrio.

  • Glauce P from Baton Rouge, LA Says:

    Amazing experience!

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! Staff was extremely courteous and friendly. We had a hard time finding the hotel and the owner met us where we were and walked us all the way to the hotel. Plus, it offers breathtaking views of both sides of the island. Hotel is extremely well maintained, and breakfast super yummy! This hotel is the perfect complement to your stay in Santorini…

We have just returned home to the San Francisco area after leaving your lovely place, we spent some time in Naplio, Olympia, Korinthos and Athens. Your place was the loviliest experience, from your lovely pool area and our room (and bed), to breakfast to your helpfulness and availability at the front desk all the time, to our own personal patio kitten which I still miss (we named her “Rainy”, since it rained a bit on us). We will miss the Aethrio the most. Thank you so much for making our stay on Santorini so memorable!

Dear Candice, please check your junked mails because we try to answer you each time without answer ! Apparently you don’t receive our mails. I’ll try with my personal webmail.

We are just home from spending 2 weeks at Aethrio and loved every minute of it.
It is in an excellent location as others have said as it is only a minute walk from the bus stop and easy to find. It is so relaxing and quiet there that you would forget that the main village is only a few seconds walk away.
The breakfast every morning is a perfect start to the day with choices of different fresh breads, pastries, types of egg, cereals and juice, coffee and teas.
We stayed in a 2 person studio Rm 10 which was perfectly suited to our needs. I loved the huge shower :-)
The pool was lovely and there were always enough sunbeds for everyone. A few days we were the only people at the pool so it was very relaxing and felt like it was our own private pool!
The layout and landscaping is beautiful and there’s a very homey feel about the place.
Oia itself is incredible. Every corner you turn has another breathtaking view which you would never get fed up of looking at.
The staff are great, very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
We would recommend Aethrio to anyone and plan on booking in again for next summer as soon as flights are available!!
